Bodycam footage captures suspect aiming gun at Columbus officer during foot pursuit

Columbus police have released body camera footage capturing the moment when an armed man pointed a gun at an officer during a foot pursuit at an apartment complex on Columbus’ Southeast Side. The shooting happened on the evening of Sept. 19 in the 1400 block of Burstock Road at the Fairgate Apartments,  a complex of mostly duplex apartment buildings near Deshler and Fairwood parks. Columbus police officers on patrol were attempting a traffic stop on a black Volkswagen 4Motion at Burstock Road and Frebis Avenue, when the driver — a 24 year-old-man whom The Dispatch is not identifying— did not comply with officers’ instructions to pull over. The suspect’s girlfriend was also in the vehicle, body camera footage shows. The suspect drove further on Burstock Road when he got out of the vehicle in the 1400 block of Burkstock and fled. Officers noted that they could see a gun in his hand when he got out of the vehicle. One of the officers pulled their gun on the suspect’s girlfriend, ...

He preached the gospel as hijacked plane hit the water

After hijackers commandeered an Ethiopian Airlines flight in 1996 and it eventually ran out of fuel, one man stood to give passengers one last chance to hear a lifesaving message – the gospel of Jesus Christ. About 20 minutes after Flight 961 took off from Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, on a flight to Abidjan, three hijackers stormed the cabin and demanded to be flown to Australia. “The stewardesses started looking scared and upset,” British passenger Katherine Hayes told The Scottish Daily Record later. “Then this man came on the intercom. He said he had hijacked the plane and had a bomb. Hayes says she was surprised that most people remained calm. “It was almost surreal,” she reported. A man nearby borrowed Hayes’ book, as a dreamlike normalcy prevailed for a while. “This went on for four hours without food or drink, but we were OK,” Hayes told the Daily Record. Pilot Leul Abate The pilots knew, however, there was not enough jet fuel to get to Australia. As the precious fuel ...

Video shows last flying C-123 Provider almost crashing while landing in heavy Crosswinds at Geneseo Airshow

Last flying C-123 Provider almost crashing while landing Filmed on Jun. 3, 2023 the video in this post features the last flying C-123 (Serial #54-664, named “Thunderpig”) almost crashing while landing in heavy cross winds at Geneseo Airshow.  Notice the windsock at 0:27. The wind is quartering out of the left but at 0:32 you see the pilot is holding significant right aileron which is exacerbating the  crosswind condition impact on the aircraft. The crew was able to correct the error but that could have been a lot worse.  Thunderpig belongs to Air Heritage Inc. #54-664 is a C-123K named Thunderpig after the nickname used by the 911th Airlift Wing based at Greater Pittsburgh Airport when they flew the C-123 there. Since then #54-664 has received a total restoration and is presently flying to as many air shows during the summer as it can.  The Air Heritage Museum Fairchild C-123K Provider is being flown in dedication for all of those who served in South East Asia...

The Driver Who Miraculously Evaded an Armed Robbery Attempt Tells All

Leo Prinsloo is a chief instructor for Fortis Pro Active Defence Solutions and serves as head of training in their Lone Operator program. Before that he had a long career in the South African Police Service, and was selected for their Special Task Force, where he rose to the rank of Captain. During that time he was part of many high risk operations, including security details for two U.S. presidents and the  Queen of England . Earlier this month, Prinsloo stepped behind the wheel of an armored  70 Series Toyota Land Cruiser  with his crewmate Lloyd Mtombeni to escort high value cargo in Pretoria. Elsewhere in the world this may have been mundane, but due to economic turmoil, there has been a rapid rise in the armed robberies of cash-in-transit, or CIT, vehicles in South Africa. This was to be one of one of those attempts — and if anyone but Prinsloo was driving, it might have been a successful one. Below, the tale of Prinsloo’s harrowing escape appears as told to Charles ...
